You can help provide an orphanage with clean and safe drinking water….
Recently, we received an update on the orphanage that we have been helping the past couple of years. Although we have made significant improvements in the areas of food and housing, the orphanage continues to struggle in maintaining a fresh water supply.
During the past two years, we have installed gutters to collect rainwater and provided a new plastic storage tank. This system has been very effective in collecting rainwater, however due to contamination, this water is still undrinkable without boiling first. Fuel is scarce, and so the villagers often have to hike several miles to get fresh drinking water.
Fortunately, this is a problem that is easily solved. We will be taking a a new water purification systems to the orphanage on our next trip in 2016. LifeStraw® Community is a high-volume point-of-use water purifier with built-in safe storage that provides safe drinking water for community, educational and institutional settings. It prevents waterborne disease such as diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, worms, and cryptosporidiosis. Each system can purify between 70,000 -100,000* liters of water, enough to serve the orphanage for several years.
